Goodbye GiGi

I first met GiGi, a 16 years old Himalayan cat, September 2010. She was diagnosed with terminal renal failure and cautiously I told her owner she only had a month or two to live. But miracles do happen! GiGi had such a strong will to live; no matter how bad her blood results were, she never seemed to give up and was always happy to eat. With the help of her most dedicated owner, GiGi was able to enjoy quality life for another nine months before she passed away last month - just one month short of her 17th birthday. I received a thank-you card from her owner not long ago. Reading the card, I had tears in my eyes. I was once again reminded of why I became a vet and how strong the human-animal bond can be.
